About Us

The Center — and the Movement!

The Dave Alexander Center for Social Capital is the world’s premier center for people-centric business strategies. Through its flagship publication — the Social Capital Insider — and its other divisions, it provides a platform for those trailblazing Social Capital leaders to share in their own words, interviews, events and teaching modules how they are changing society for the better — inspiring others through their example as they achieve success for their businesses, their people and the world at large.

In the words of Adam Smith, often regarded as the “father of capitalism,” “How selfish soever man may be supposed, there are evidently some principles in his nature, which interest him in the fortune of others, and render their happiness necessary to him, though he derives nothing from it except the pleasure of seeing it.”

It is our privilege and purpose to honor CEOs and business leaders who indeed see people as the point of business and of profits, which allows them to build strong bonds with those they rely on for their success: their employees, their customers, and their communities. This approach not only drives success but also gives them a sense of meaning and purpose in an increasingly challenging and complicated world.

We at the Dave Alexander Center for Social Capital are committed to recognizing and chronicling these leaders and their companies because we believe this is how business, capitalism and the world should work and needs to work for the continued growth and success of business in America and the world.

They realize their role and responsibility is to not just provide products and services but to help improve the state of humanity — that is their real product.

SOCIAL CAPITAL is the new ultimate asset for any business. It is at the core what it means to be successful in the twenty-first century and beyond.

The SOCIAL CAPITAL movement has already transformed business and society and will be the single most important force for achieving happiness and prosperity for all in the years to come.

Chris Benguhe
Founder & President, Dave Alexander Center for Social Capital
Publisher, Social Capital Insider

Former People magazine writer and tabloid editor turned internationally published author, columnist, editor and consultant, Chris Benguhe has worked at every level of the editorial process, including editor-in-chief and publisher. He has also edited dozens of titles for up-and-coming authors, specializing in both the inspirational self-help and motivational business genres.

In the past few years, he became intensely interested in the intersection of social betterment and business, specifically as it relates to the treatment of people, whether employees, customers or those in the communities in which businesses reside. This led to him pursuing the creation of a network of trailblazing CEOs and business leaders who realize that people are the point of profits, not the other way around, and helping them to share their thoughts and strategies.

RaeAnne Marsh
Managing Director, Dave Alexander Center for Social Capital
Managing Editor, Social Capital Insider

RaeAnne Marsh is like an editorial machine whose editorial strength and integrity draw upon 25 years of rich publishing experience and success working as a managing editor, copy editor, story editor and contributing writer with local, regional and national publications, culminating in her current role as managing editor for Social Capital Insider.

Her career in journalism sprang out of her earlier career as a teacher when she helped create material for a language arts enrichment program that mixed literature, drama and art. In 1998, she became founding editor of regional lifestyle magazine Arizona Corridors. In 2002, she incorporated her own business, Grammar & Glitz, and has worked with varied businesses and contributed to publications on widely diverse subject matter. In 2010, she became editorial director of Phoenix-based InMedia Company and helped launch Greater Phoenix business resource In Business Magazine.

Through it all, she never lost her love for educating and assisting the young, from 18 years as a Girl Scout leader and trainer to many years on the board of directors of Rosie’s House: A Music Academy for Children, a nonprofit that provides instruments and free, professional music instruction to the underserved youth of Phoenix.

Dave Alexander
Founding Sponsor, Center for Social Capital

From a young age, Dave Alexander found himself in the spotlight on the stages of his life. Driven by his competitive nature yet softened by the values he received from his parents, his mentors, and the Scout Oath, Scout Law and Scout motto, Dave became an accomplished professional magician and then a world-renowned triathlete — all while building a business that today leads the Southwest. But despite all his amazing lifetime achievements, Dave lives his life guided by a humble philosophy: It is more important to be the best for the world than to be the best in the world. His lessons in leadership are simple but profound, based in his faith in God and his inherent drive to retain and protect his integrity. He doesn’t have to work at it — it is an indelible part of the character of this larger-than-life personality.

Dave Alexander is founder and managing member of Caljet, which he began in 1982 with $1,000 borrowed from his credit card and turned into the largest independent motor fuels terminal in the Southwestern United States. In addition to his determination for growing his business, Dave has followed his passions around the world, completing almost 300 triathlons in 37 countries and educating the public — especially youth — about the real relationship between being “fit” and “fat.”

Dave is an Eagle Scout, WP Society member, a Baden-Powell Fellow and a member of Regal Circle. He received the Silver Buffalo Award for distinguished service to youth in 2019. In December 2021, Dave was awarded the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award, which was established in 1969 to acknowledge Eagle Scouts who have received extraordinary national-level recognition, fame or demonstrated eminence within their field, and have a strong record of voluntary service to their community
